Louis Vuitton 5th Avenue Store in New York

The neighbourhood

Yellow cabs, oversized billboards and throngs of commuters add to the unrelenting pace and electric atmosphere of New York City. In perpetual movement, with infectious energy, if it can be envisioned or invented, it is here.

Not far from the wondrous Central Park, and yet in the heart of Manhattan's midtown shopping, Louis Vuitton is right at home at the intersection of Fifth and 57th.

The facade

What was once an Art Deco building was transformed into a modern glass façade that is, in the words of architect Jun Aoki, “a playfully sleek meditation on crystalline transparency and clouded translucency”.

The interior

The three-story “Feature Wall” is the New York interior's centerpiece, climbing from the ground floor to the top of the retail volume. The luminous wall can change from vibrant jewel-tones to misty pastels and also functions as a screen for still images and films.

Light and fluidity and history and heritage are showcased throughout the store, with such details as the cantilevered bronze-clad staircase and a hovering wall of vintage trunks.
