  • «VOLEZ, VOGUEZ, VOYAGEZ» EXHIBITION IN NEW YORK

New York City is the next stop for «Volez, Voguez, Voyagez – Louis Vuitton», from October 27 until January 7, 2018.

The «Volez, Voguez, Voyagez – Louis Vuitton» exhibition opens its doors for the first time in New York City, at the historic American Stock Exchange, from October 27, 2017 through January 7, 2018.
Curated by Olivier Saillard, the exhibition retraces Louis Vuitton’s great journey from 1854 till today, through archives of the Family’s founding members to those who create the Louis Vuitton of today.
Since the end of the 19th century, Louis Vuitton has always maintained strong ties with the United States of Americas. Georges Vuitton first introduced the House to the New World at the 1893 Chicago World Fair and began selling Louis Vuitton products in New York and Philadelphia in 1898. A faithful American clientele rapidly grew: the Vanderbilts and the Rockfellers, Mary Pickford and Lauren Bacall, Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald were among the long list of renowned clients. Later, the collaborations with contemporary artists such as Stephen Sprouse and Jeff Koons added another milestone to the relations between Louis Vuitton and the United States of America.

  • VOLEZ, VOGUEZ, VOYAGEZ EXHIBITION IN NEW YORK

Louis Vuitton presents “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez - Louis Vuitton” at the former American Stock Exchange Building.

To mark its latest stop in New York, “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez - Louis Vuitton” has absorbed the city’s local colour with an animated concept video posted here. In this alternate urban dreamscape, a subway car stamped with the iconic Monogram pauses at a station in the sky where it gets tagged with a golden V. As the train sails on, other playful, distinctly Vuitton motifs appear as stylized graffiti.

On the 4th of October 2017, Louis Vuitton opened the Maison Louis Vuitton Vendôme, at 2 Place Vendôme, newly designed and re-instated by architect Peter Marino.

The Maison is situated in two hôtel particuliers – classic Parisian townhouses – which, over the years have been home to courtiers, nobles, aristocracy, the occasional princess and the future emperor Napoléon III. Once known as Hôtel Baudet de Morlet and Hôtel Heuzé de Vologer, these hôtels were completed in 1714, but greatly altered over the years, including a particularly destructive “renovation” in the 1980s.

Architect Peter Marino has now returned these two buildings to their former glory: floors have been returned to their 18th-century grandeur, ceilings to their original heights (nearly five metres on the first floor), and the façade, designed by the architect of the Palace of Versailles, Jules-Hardouin Mansart, has been sensitively restored.

Throughout the Maison, Peter Marino has deftly blended the old and new, employing techniques and materials that reference French history and craftsmanship, while carefully integrating ultra-modern designs. Behind the original façade, the Maison has been designed to be opened and filled with light. The extensive use of glass, light-coloured stone, artisanal wall coverings, and beautiful parquet and stone flooring allows each floor to subtly assert its unique character, while remaining part of a coherent whole.
